Feast Day: The Presentation of the Lord

History: 1887 - The first Groundhog Day was celebrated.
Interestingly enough, Groundhog Day has its roots in Candlemas Day and Candlemas Day began in the 8th century in celebration of the Presentation of the Lord! Today's the day to get out all the candles around the house and bless them. The prayer we'll use is from The Catholic Home
:Lord Jesus Christ,
pour forth your blessing on these candles and
sanctify them by the light of your grace.
May our hearts be illuminated by your light,
may our actions be guided by your light,
so that when our lives are finished,
we may come into the eternal presence of your redeeming light.
We pray this in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
